Albert drilling out holes where old fastenings have
been removed to prepare them for new fastenings. More than 2000 fastenings
were replaced during the 2002 season, less than 3000 to be done during
2003. |

The keel and deadwood are Oak and in good shape, the bottom planks
are good, solid 3" Larch and will be refastened and recaulked. |

treenails are tapered Mahogany plugs which are inserted with epoxy
filler into the holes where old fastenings have been removed to fasten
the garboard to the keelson. Additional new 1/2" galvanized lag screws
5" long have been installed as well. |

Sequoia and Mark inspect the bottom of the keel. The
bottom 3-6" of the keel are the grounding shoe or worm shoe and are
sacrificial deadwood which is routinely replaced as needed. |

and S31 have been just cleaned and painted as has the longitudinal
stringer. Frame S29 is new steel installed in 2002 and is an integral
chain plate for the main mast aft lower shroud. |
