THE REFIT 2002

2002 Refit Work Accomplished: During 2002, all of the interior accommodations, paneling, ceilings, bulkheads, floors, tanks, plumbing and wiring were removed.  The bottom was scraped and power washed. The entire interior of the boat was power washed with TSP and massive quantities of bleach and degreasers.  Work was begun on refastening planks on the bottom which were deemed good and would remain.  A plan for removing and replacing the steel framework was made and the first 19 frames and four floors were fabricated and installed. Extensive scraping and removal of rust and scale on the interior steel was done, as was the first phase of rust treatment and priming of the rusted steel. The teak deck hatches were rebuilt and refinished with new plexi-glass lights. The temporary refit quarters and office roof and walls on the main deck were constructed. New planking for delivery in 2003 was milled and set to dry. The mast and rigging were removed. Access stairs were built. The vessel was covered and winterized for protection from the weather.
